Saturday may be a time for relaxation from a long and tiring week but for some Davao Light and Power Company personnel it is going to be all about cleaning up.

Hence, last January 21, the Power Plant and Safety Departments of the electric utility conducted a canal waterway clean up activity dubbed, “Oplan Clean-up Estero” at Barangay 19-B situated at the back of the company's Bajada Power Plant. Around 30 personnel and volunteers worked together to clean and declog the esteros in the area.

The said campaign, which was spearheaded by Engrs. Ferdinand Cabalhin and Edelito Fernandez, the department managers of Power Plant and Safety, respectively, stemmed from the successful participation of Davao Light in the Linis Estero campaign of the Department of Environment & Natural Resources last June 2011.

Davao Light manages power generation deficiency PDF Print E-mail

Since the first week of January, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has been advising utilities in the Mindanao grid, including Davao Light & Power Co., of the generation deficiency situation in Mindanao.

NGCP's recent advisory of January 24 indicated it will have to implement a load curtailment of up to 150 MW in the grid in view of the generation deficiency. Davao Light's share of the total curtailment is approximately 30 MW.

However, even with its share in the curtailment, Davao Light customers have not been experiencing rotating brownouts unlike electricity end-users in other parts of Mindanao. This is because Davao Light has contracted Power Supply Agreements (PSA) in anticipation of such curtailment given the projected precarious level of supply and reserve in the grid.
